Scope

Bioplastics from Natural Polymers, directly extracted from the biomass:

  • Polysaccharides (starch, chitin, chitosan, hemicelluloses, cellulose…), proteins (gluten, casein, zein…), lignins…
  • Bacterial polymers (PHAs…)

Thermoplastic and Thermosetting Bioplastics, indirectly produced from biomass:

  • Poly(lactic acid) (PLA)
  • Materials based on glycerides (from vegetable oil, algae…)
  • Materials based on polyols extracted from biomass

Bioproduction, Biotech & Biodegradability:

  • Biocatalysis and Biotechnological Production
  • Enzymatic production and modification
  • Biodegradation, Eco-toxicity…

Multiphase systems:

  • Bio-based blends
  • Biocomposites (ligno-cellulose fibers…)
  • Nano-biocomposites (clays, silica, whisker, CNT)

Industrials Applications of Bioplastics:

  • Biodegradable packaging
  • Biobased buildings materials
  • Materials for health-care…

A special session will be devoted to Biopolymers for Biomedical applications.

Program

Communications

The conference will feature :

  • Invited lectures (40 minutes)

Pr. G. Decher (France)
Pr. Ph. Dubois (Belgium)
Pr. J. Kenny (Italy/Spain)
Pr. R.A. Gross (USA)
Pr. R. Gilbert (Australia)
Pr. D. Plackett (Denmark)
Pr. R. Narayan (USA)
Pr. S. Narine (Canada)

  • Contributed oral (15 or 20 minutes)

The official language will be English. No translation service will be provided. It is recommended to leave 5 minutes for the discussion at the end of the oral communications. Power-Point (PPT) Presentations.

The PPT file must be downloaded and tested with the Central PC, before the beginning of the session.

  • Poster presentations

The max. poster size (portrait format) is 100 x 140 cm. Please make sure that the poster is well structured and the text is not too long. It should be readable in less than 2-3 minutes. Illustrations, figures and tables are highly recommended as main information source. Letters should be large enough to be read from 3m (10 feet) distance. During the poster sessions at least one of the authors should be present at the poster to discuss with the audience.

Publication

A special issue of Polymer Degradation and Stability (Edited by Elsevier) with selected papers from BIOPOL 2011 will be prepared. If you are interested to submit a full article, please send a short Email to the main guest Editor (Pr. Luc Avérous), before or during the conference.
